Appellation of Controlled Origin is a French certification system started in 1935 which sets standards for products that producers must meet in order to carry the letters AOC. Venezuela started its own certification system specific to rum, requiring rum manufacturers to meet the following standads:

Beverages called “rum” must be aged for at least two years in closed American white oak barrels or casks.

The tropical climate of the region, with high temperatures during the day and low temperatures during the night coupled with high humidity, catalyzes the aging process and the chemical interaction between the white oak barrels and the alcohol stored within.
These conditions accelerate the aging process up to 3 times the rate achieved in other countries.

In Destilería Carúpano, the water used to make the rum comes from either a spring or a deep well, this ensures a greater purity guaranteeing that there will be no undesirable odors or flavors.

The high level of sucrose present in the sugar cane used as raw material results in high quality molasses.

Since 2003 Venezuela grants the AOC “Ron de Venezuela” only to companies that meet the highest standards in rum manufacture.

Destilería Carúpano is located in the Hacienda Altamira in the Macarapana-Carúpano valley, a low altitude area at sea level where a particular microclimate develops with a high degree of relative humidity from Caribbean Sea breezes and high temperatures, as a result, the time required for aging is accelerated, optimized and intensified.

More than 250 years of Rum Mastery

Our ability to produce a wide and unlimited range of distillates. Meaning, to produce in a standardized and parallel way, distillates with different degrees of differentiation in the same category and in different categories among themselves. Our techniques and our experience have allowed us to identify subtle differences between products that are attractive to even the most demanding palates. In addition, this area of expertise is combined with sensory evaluations and consumer knowledge to offer attractive brands, in intriguing bottles with an authentic product quality.

Ron Carúpano has agreed as a Strategic Objective, the development, implementation and maintenance of a Quality Management System based on the guidelines of ISO 9001:2008, a set of rules for quality and management. The ISO 9001 Policy has been prepared by the ISO/TC176 Technical Committee of ISO International Organization for Standardization and specifies the requirements for a good quality management system.
